Kate Bresee
Managing Director
Kate Bresee is Managing Director for Dance in the Schools. She is a passionate advocate for outstanding childhood dance-based education. Committed to expanding the possibilities for Dance in the Schools, she formed a not-for-profit LLC for Dance in the Schools in May 2021.
Kate also teaches for Dance in the Schools and in the greater Boston area. She was dance educator at Boston University for eleven years until the pandemic and previously worked part-time with museum administration at Historic Newton. Prior to moving to the Boston area, Kate was based in Oslo, Norway for twenty years. Her professional career as a contemporary dancer and choreographer took her throughout Scandinavia, Europe, the Netherlands, St. Petersburg, Russia, the Winter Olympics, the Kennedy Center in the U.S. After dancing for Høvik Ballet, Kate founded and directed Bresee Dansekompani. She received numerous prestigious grants and choreographic commissions, including the 1000th anniversary celebration for the City of Oslo. Her choreography is represented in the Norwegian Dance Archives. Through 2015 Kate worked with CODA, the Contemporary International Dance Festival in Oslo. She has been the Costume Director for Tony Williams’ Urban Nutcracker production. Kate has served on the boards of Høvik Ballet, Norwegian National Year of Dance, City of Oslo Cultural Arts Festival and also as a panelist for Cambridge Arts Council. Kate earned her BA in Dance from Bennington College with advanced studies in London and NYC.
