Erik Brown
Dance teaching artist
Erik’s formative years were spent in Cambridge MA and he attended the original Cambridge Alternative Public School and the Cambridge Pilot School High School. He studied dance at UMass Boston and was a visiting artist at Boston Conservatory at the invitation of the legendary Sam Kurkjian. An original company member of Carlton Jones’ Rainbow Tribe, Erik has performed with the Cle Douglass Backyard Dance Theater and with Yo-El Cassell’s men’s ensemble at the Esplanade Hatch Shell with Kieth Lockhart and the Boston Pops Orchestra. A self-taught street and breakdancer, his formal dance studies include a variety of modern dance techniques such as Martha Graham, Lester Horton, Jose Limon, Merce Cunningham, in addition to the Luigi jazz dance technique and the Vaganova and Balanchine ballet methods. Erik completed a lifelong goal when he attended a Fosse masterclass with the Verdon Fosse Legacy in N.Y.C. in 2024! He began working with K-2 at the Cambridge Inner-City Day Camp, and has taught Initiated Movement for Actors and Modern Jazz. In 2025, Erik joined the Dance in the Schools dance teaching artist team.
